Below, film critic Dana Stevens talks with political reporter David Weigel about Captain Phillips, the new Tom Hanks movie directed by Paul Greengrass and based on the true story of the Maersk Alabama, which was highjacked by Somali pirates in 2009. Does the film imbue its pirate villains with any humanity? Is it too sympathetic to the pirates? On a less serious note, does Tom Hanks deserve another Oscar?
