The Year’s Best Movies, in a Gorgeous Montage

There are lots of ways to make an end-of-year movies list. For senior editor David Ehrlich, the way to do it is in a video montage, with highlights from all the year’s best films.

Ehrlich started doing these cinematic countdowns in 2011—here are his montages for 2012 and 2011—and I’ve come to look forward to them each year (along with Matt Shapiro’s Cinemascape). You may not agree with all the choices, of course. But as the table-setting opening montage suggests, it’s just as much about highlighting the look and sound of the movies in 2013. (All the music is drawn from this year’s films and listed at the end.) Any cinephile is liable to watch it and be reminded of just how much they love the movies.

As suggests, it’s worth watching full-screen, with good speakers or a good pair of headphones.
