Save for a minor Christmas song in 2015, the world has been devoid of new original music from LCD Soundsystem for seven years. But the band is officially back—just last month they reunited to play several shows at the opening of the new concert venue Brooklyn Steel, and they have announced an album to be released sometime this year. And on Thursday, they shared the studio version of “Call the Police,” a song they debuted for the lucky audience members in attendance during that Brooklyn residency.
As Bluetones frontman Mark Morriss put it on BBC 1 Radio’s Steve Lamacq’s Roundtable in the stream above, the track feels very much in the vein of the Killers, ostensibly heavier on arena rock influence than the dance-punk they’re most known for—though it still maintains an energetic, rousing beat. Another new song, “American Dream,” is also set to be released today, and in a Facebook post, the band shared a few more details of what fans can expect—namely, that the LP is “seriously almost done” and they plan “to play shows near where people live. and no, not just festivals.” (Though they reiterated how much they “loathe overpriced Stubhub bullshit.”) In the meantime, look forward to LCD’s upcoming performances on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Update, May 5: You can listen to “Call the Police” and another new song, “American Dream,” via all the usual digital channels.
