Think You're Pretty Funny?Introducing Slate V's Comedy News Contest.

Illustration by Deanna Staffo. Click image to expand.Could you be the next Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, or Amy Poehler? Are you funny enough to make the rest of us laugh about the increasingly absurd state of our world? Here's your chance to prove it.

Introducing Slate V's Comedy News Contest. All you have to do is find a real news story, work it into a side-splitting joke, make a video of yourself telling the joke, and upload it to us by Oct. 26, 2007. Our guest judge, Kevin Bleyer, a writer for The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, will choose a winner and several runners-up. The first-prize winner gets 500 bucks, and the top five jokes get a featured appearance on Slate V in early November. That's all there is to it.*

You don't need fancy video equipment. You can record yourself with a digital camera, a phone, or a Web cam—we'll be happy as long as we can see and hear you clearly (and as long as your entry is 25 seconds or less). For some examples of what we're talking about, watch this short intro video:

We're thinking of this as a video version of The New Yorker's cartoon caption contest: It's your chance to show that you can be as funny as the pros.

To enter, visit www.slatev.com/comedynews. Good luck.

*Aside from a Russian-novel-length set of official contest rules, of course.
