Wednesday night was a pretty good final night of the NBA regular season. The Golden State Warriors closed out the greatest regular season of all time with a record-setting victory over the Memphis Grizzlies in Oakland. And another thing happened that seemed to be getting a lot more attention than this remarkable one-of-a-kind achievement: the fifth or sixth best Los Angeles Laker in the history of that team, Kobe Bryant, scored 60 points in his last game ever. (Former teammate Shaquille O'Neal called Bryant the greatest Laker ever—and more insanely, the actual greatest Laker ever Magic Johnson also did before the start of the game—but earlier in the night Deadspin questioned whether he was even a top-five Laker. Heading into the night, career PER statistics would have him at No. 6, but there’s a chance he tied or overtook Jerry West in that statistic in the final game of his career.)

Bryant’s 22-for-50 shooting and his 60 points were an NBA regular season high for any player this year and the best performance for a final game in the league’s history. And the drama wasn’t just a personal one. OK, the game was utterly meaningless with both teams eliminated from the playoffs, but Bryant keyed one final Lakers comeback and hit the go-ahead jumper with 31 seconds left in the game in trademark fashion. I mean, I hate Kobe as much as the next Kobe hater, but I have to acknowledge that this shot was something. You can watch it below.

Arrivederci, Kobe.
