On June 26, the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Obergefell v. Hodges bringing marriage equality to every state in America. Immediately, conservative politicians and lawmakers railed against the ruling as an illegal act of judicial supremacy and a demolition of states’ rights. Their responses were quite similar to those of pro-segregation lawmakers following Brown v. Board of Education and subsequent desegregation rulings.
