Jessica Chastain Is on a Ruthless Crusade in the Trailer for Gun Control Drama Miss Sloane

The gun control debate has been tackled from several pop cultural angles over the years: in TV drama, in documentaries, in morbid satire. Now, Miss Sloane, a political thriller directed by Oscar nominee John Madden (Shakespeare in Love), stars Jessica Chastain as a washed-up political lobbyist who attempts to stage a comeback by taking on the fight for new, restrictive gun legislation.

Chastain has been a vocal advocate for gun-safety policy, and has starred in such divisive political films as Zero Dark Thirty and A Most Violent Year.  Now Miss Sloane gives us a protagonist shrouded in moral ambiguity and a strong supporting cast—including Gugu Mbatha-Raw, John Lithgow, and Sam Waterston. But in the debut trailer (first released by Entertainment Weekly), this very much looks like Chastain’s show, as well as, potentially, a unique platform for a serious policy conversation.
