Beyoncé’s Trailer for Her New Clothing Line Is Very Beyoncé-Meets-Nike-Commercial

Take any Beyoncé video, mash it up with any Nike commercial, and behold: You’ve got the new trailer for the icon’s new athletic clothing line, Ivy Park. The mood is dramatic, Beyoncé: ethereal. (As always.) She stands in the middle of a basketball court in that most beautiful of Mother Nature’s phenomena—a sunny downpour—hip cocked, arms folded, skin glistening, spandex Ivy Park two-piece hugging every idolized curve.

She practices lunges and carefully cranes her neck in a sun-kissed workout room; she pops some signature dynamite moves against a white wall backdrop in elegant slow-mo. Contemplation of continued world domination occurs in the pool, and behind a symbolic gate.

Blue Ivy, of course, makes a fitting cameo as Beyoncé’s adorable baby weight, hitching a ride on mommy’s back. All the while, the voice of Queen Bey weaves the narrative of her father’s determination to mold her into a star at a young age, and her unfailing love for the Houston park where she grew up and built up her endurance. “I would wake up in the morning, and my dad would come knocking on my door, telling me it’s time to go running. I remember wanting to stop, but I would push myself to keep going.”

It’s an effective montage, for who is Beyoncé but one of our nation’s foremost athletes? To be able to sing live while investing the utmost energy and dedication in heavy choreography—and in high heels!—is a masterful athletic feat, on par with the likes of Serena Williams. (Not to mention being able to gracefully and instantly bounce back on those rarest of choreographic fumbles.) It’s unclear whether anyone besides the most loyal (and prosperous) members of the Bey Hive will splurge on the sexy fashion gear, but this trailer proves one thing: Beyoncé has perfected the art of being Beyoncé.
