Watch Jimmy Kimmel Mansplain Campaigning to Hillary Clinton

On Thursday, Hillary Clinton, fresh off the latest primary and caucuses, paid a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live. Ever the helpful host, Kimmel took the opportunity to “mansplain” to the democratic presidential frontrunner how she might improve her oft-maligned presentation skills. Kimmel suggested a simple exercise: Clinton would give her stump speech and Kimmel would stop her at various points to suggest ways she could be better.

After correcting Clinton on the meaning of the word “mansplain,” thereby offering a convenient case-in-point, Kimmel had trusty staffer Guillermo bring out a podium so that the duo could get right to work. Clinton remained a game, cordial guest, even as Kimmel’s suggestions grew more condescending and contradictory: “Is that what you’re gonna wear to do this?”; “You’re shouting—it comes off as a little shrill”; “You have to speak up, because we can’t hear you. You’re like a mouse up there. And you know what would be nice? If you smiled.” Eventually, Clinton stopped Kimmel and tried to make him see how unreasonable and, yes, sexist his comments were. He didn’t quite take the hint, but here’s hoping other media commentators will.
