The Daily Show’s Jessica Williams Is Not Here for Your Non-Hovering “Hoverboards”

For years we’ve been promised hoverboards, and for years we have been cruelly disappointed. Most recently, companies like IO Hawk and Hovertrax have raised our hopes with allegedly cutting-edge products, only to fail in the eyes of every Back to the Future diehard when their hoverboards were revealed to be less boards that hover and more Segways sans sticks.

Daily Show correspondent Jessica Williams has fantasized about riding a hoverboard since childhood, and this week she gave voice to every hoverboard hopeful’s frustrations. “This isn’t the future,” she tells IO Hawk president John Soibatian after he rolls in on his non-hovering hoverboard. “This is bullshit.” She also elicits a damning confession from Hovertrax inventor Shane Chen: “It’s not really hovering,” he says of his product, “but it’s a cool name.” Williams ends on a hopeful note, but we have bad news: If you’re looking for a Marty McFly-style hoverboard, it’s probably never going to happen.
