Your Next Oscars Host Is Neil Patrick Harris
Neil Patrick Harris is having quite the year: He took home a Tony in June for his starring role in Broadway’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch, married his longtime partner in September, and now in October he has a role in the country’s biggest movie, Gone Girl. Now the actor has announced, via a video on Twitter, that he’ll host next year’s 87th Academy Awards, scheduled to air Feb. 22, 2015.
Harris has also previously hosted both the Emmy and Tony Awards. That makes him just one Grammys gig away from a hosting EGOT—the term seemingly invented today for a person who’s hosted the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys, which no one has ever done. To get a sense of how good he’s likely to be as Oscars host, watch his opening number from the 2010 Oscars (which were hosted by Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin), below.
