Jessica Grose recommends HBO’s new series Enlightened, in which Laura Dern plays a woman who has a nervous breakdown, goes to a New Age rehab, and tries to resume her life as a better person—while still grappling with the anger underneath. The show premieres on Oct. 10 at 9:30 p.m.

Hanna Rosin adores the paintings of Kehinde Wiley, who is currently featured in an exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., called 30 Americans. He paints everyday men in heroic settings, in the style of the old masters. See more of his work at his website.
