Four months and at least 3,513 gun-related deaths after the massacre at Newtown, the Senate voted on seven amendments aimed to improve federal gun laws, including amendments to expand background checks, ban high-capacity magazines, and ban assault weapons. Senators did not reach a compromise, however, and all seven amendments failed. “I will not rest until we have righted the wrong these senators have done,” wrote former congresswoman Gabby Giffords, who was shot in the head in 2011, in a New York Times op-ed. The map above shows the vote of each state’s senators for each of the seven amendments. Green indicates that both a state’s senators voted for the selected amendment. Yellow indicates that only one did. Red indicates that neither voted for the amendment.

Correction, April 19, 2013: This map originally swapped the states in which Tom Udall and Mark Udall are senators. Tom is from New Mexico and Mark is from Colorado. They voted identically on each amendment, so the colors of their states were still accurate.
