Slate’s already illustrated the fastest ships in science fiction. Now, DeviantART user DirkLoechel has compiled a huge chart showing hundreds of spaceships from pretty much every major science fiction franchise you can think of, including Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, Battlestar Galactica, and Halo, with each pixel representing 10 meters of length. The humongous city destroyer ship from Independence Day appears to be the most massive, at about 15 miles in diameter, and it’s followed by titanic ships from the online multiplayer universe Eve, Warhammer, and Star Wars. Also appearing: Spaceball One and ships from Wall-E, Firefly, Robotech, StarCraft, Stargate, and other franchises.

The sizes are doubtlessly based on speculation and extracanonical evidence, and the chart seems to exclude some ships that are just too big—for example, the primary mothership (grandmothership?) in Independence Day or the Death Star, though perhaps these are both better deemed “mobile space stations” anyway. In any case, fans from each franchise will inevitably protest that the so-and-so ship was shortchanged on its size, but arguing over banalities is the heart of true fanship.
