Breaking Bad's Walter White did some terrible things to become kingpin of the Albuquerque meth underworld. He's done plenty more since. In the chart below, we evaluated some of Walt’s most notable actions since the final season of Breaking Bad started. We rated each on two dimensions. First, we rated its evil—it’s moral despicability, how much more certain it makes us that Walt is right when he tells Jesse “if you believe that there’s a hell … we’re already pretty much going there.” Then, we rated how badass it was—how craftily it was conceived, how gutsy it was to pull off.
Destroys evidence with magnet
Season 5, Episode 1
The police find Gus' laptop, which contains footage that could incriminate Walt. While the laptop sits in a police evidence locker, Walt, Jesse, and Mike use a junkyard magnet from the outside to wipe its memory.
Gets two new cars
Season 5, Episode 4
Walt sells his beat-up Pontiac Aztek for $50 and gets a new Chrysler 300 and Dodge Challenger. He explains to Hank that he is leasing the cars at bargain rates.
Bugs Hank's office
Season 5, Episode 5
Walt goes to Hank's office and starts crying about Skylar. Hank, uncomfortable, goes to fetch coffee. Walt bugs Hank's phone and computer, allowing him to follow the DEA's operations.
Steals meth ingredient in train heist
Season 5, Episode 5
Walt and his fellow criminals steal what Lydia calls “an ocean†of methylamine from a train car in an elaborate heist.
Disintegrates murdered boy's body
Season 5, Episode 6
Just after they pull off the train heist, Walt and company see a boy on a bike watching them. Todd, one of the team's henchmen, quickly kills the boy. They disintegrate the boy's bike and body.
Melts handcuffs with power cord
Season 5, Episode 6
Mike attempts to steal Walt's cut of the stolen methylamine and restrains him to a radiator with a plastic tie. Using a nearby electrical cord, Walt melts the handcuffs and escapes.
Insulted, kills partner
Season 5, Episode 7
The DEA finds evidence incriminating Mike. Walt meets Mike to deliver his get-out-of-dodge bag. Walt demands Mike give him the names of men he had been paying to keep quiet. Mike refuses and calls Walt an egomaniac. Walt, enraged, shoots and kills him.
Insists Jesse stays for dinner
Season 5, Episode 7
Mr. and Mrs. White's obvious contempt for each other make for an especially awkward dinner, despite Jesse's fondness for the premade green beans.
Votes to kill Lydia
Season 5, Episode 7
Mike suspects Lydia of turning against the team and says she should be killed. Walt supports the proposal. She is saved only when she hatches a plan to steal more methylamine.
Orders the assassination of nine prison inmates
Season 5, Episode 8
Mike was paying off nine of Gus's former henchmen to keep quiet in prison. After the DEA finds out and Walt kills Mike, there's nobody left to pay them off, so Walt orders the assassination of all nine inmates through Todd's uncle.
