In the middle of a conversation about Thursday night's Republican debate, David, Emily, and John set themselves a challenge: Could they name the 10 GOP candidates within 30 seconds? Tune in to find out (the name-those-men contest comes around the 12:30 mark). Other topics in this week's Gabfest: the war vote and the president's veto; George Tenet's new book; the latest from the presidential contests; and Rupert Murdoch's bid for the Dow Jones Co.

Here are some pieces the gabbers referenced:

Christopher Hitchens on George Tenet's new book
John's take on the Republican candidates' debate
The Vanity Fair piece on Rudy Giuliani
Larissa MacFarquhar's profile of Barack Obama in The New Yorker
Emily's dispatch from former Deputy Attorney General James Comey's testimony before Congress

Update: Here's John's late-night post-debate dispatch from his hotel room:

Posted by Andy Bowers at 11:40 a.m.

Here's the rundown for this week's show: Congress throws Bush some veto bait; John McCain announces that—surprise—he's running for president (while John, Emily, and David ponder whether McCain's brain is too old); and a new book argues that women who don't work outside the home are endangering their own futures.

And we're waiting for John to send us some audio from the South Carolina debate last night. I'll post it whenever it comes in. Posted by Andy Bowers at 11:17 a.m.
