Spoiling 24Dissecting Day 6, Hour 5.

In this week's episode of 24—which depicts the hour between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.—viewers were treated to an eerie vision of Los Angeles in the wake of catastrophe: the city, full of frenzied pedestrians and cars clogged with suitcases, still bathed in calm, golden light. The hour then progressed as fans have come to expect, with a few incredible plot twists, a few petulant turns by feisty women, and one remarkably crappy presidential speech. We also learned, among other things, about Jack Bauer's peculiar mode of greeting long-lost kin.
As part of Slate's Spoiler Special podcast series—recently expanded to include television shows—we'll be hosting regular "post-view" discussions of Season 6. (Click here to listen to a discussion of the first four hours.) In this one, Slate's Meghan O'Rourke and Julia Turner discuss Hour 5's most startling developments and the key questions raised by the episode. Most notably: Jack, is that any way to treat family?
Because we reveal plot twists in these chats, we recommend—but don't insist—that you watch the show before listening to the program.
