Our May meeting of the audio book club has arrived. Critics Stephen Metcalf, Meghan O'Rourke, and Katie Roiphe recently sat down over coffee to discuss the novel Saturday, by Ian McEwan, and we recorded their session so you can listen in. The audio is already posted on Slate's daily podcast feed, or you can download or play it separately by clicking here*. (You can also read the first chapter here.)
Warning: Think carefully before listening to the McEwan book club in a public place. Several listeners of the previous club on Joan Didion reported an uncontrollable urge to jump into the conversation and talk back to the podcast. This could prove embarrassing in a supermarket or gym.
For those who'd like to get a head start on next month's selection, it's another novel: Everyman, the latest from Philip Roth. (Stephen Metcalf offers a preview of his thoughts here.) We'll release the audio of that meeting in mid-June.
