In an Oct. 17 "Explainer," Daniel Engber implied that aspens don't deposit seeds. They do lay down seeds, but these offspring almost never reach maturity.

In an Oct. 14 "Faith-Based," Lauren Winner said Marvin Olasky founded the evangelical magazine World. The founder of World was Joel Belz.

In the Oct. 14 "Surfergirl" column, Dana Stevens incorrectly referred to the character from Full Metal Jacket as "Lt. Pyle." The character's name is "Pvt. Pyle." The new season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent began on Sept. 25, not on Oct. 16. Also, Chris Noth has appeared on Law & Order shows since leaving the original series in 1995.
