Fill It Up
Readers try to predict next week's average price for a gallon of gas.
Gas prices normally go up in the summer and down in the winter: Demand is in part seasonal, and people tend to drive more in the warmer months. But there are other factors at work, and lately prices have been climbing. Each week the federal government reports on the national average price of a gallon of gas. What will the average price be next week? Express your answer in dollars and cents, choosing an amount between $2.75 and $3.25. This poll will close on Dec. 12.
Update, Dec. 14: Readers were close, but a little pessimistic. The median guess was $3.10, while gas prices are actually averaging $2.98 nationally.
