The Plans for the Lower Manhattan Expressway

New York City builder Robert Moses had big plans for the Lower Manhattan Expressway, which would have cut through Greenwich Village and SoHo, shuttered 800 businesses, carved up the beloved Washington Square Park, and kicked about 2,000 families out of their homes. Due in large part to the activism of Jane Jacobs, the expressway was never built.
