Karen Hughes Office Watch, Day 4Dan Bartlett stakes his claim.
Posted Friday, July 12, 2002, at 8:46 AM ETAs of Thursday afternoon, Karen Hughes' spacious corner office on the second floor of the White House, which she vacated on Monday, remained uninhabited. (Click here and here for previous dispatches about this tense situation.) But Chatterbox learned from Dan Bartlett, the White House communications director who has the office next door (and who has inherited many of Hughes' responsibilities), that the highly prized real estate is to be his. Bartlett said he'd been too busy this week to move in. "My goal is to try to do it tomorrow"—that is, today (Friday), he said in an exclusive interview. "If not," he added, "then over the weekend."
