Magritte’s multi-punning painting “Le Viol” compares the female body to the female face, but also to a musical instrument. Though the direct translation of the title is usually “violation” (which in some ways makes more sense that its usual English title, “The Rape”), it also sounds a lot like the musical instrument “la viole”—in other words, “the viola.”
