Bernie Sanders is probably not going to win the Democratic party’s presidential nomination. But as was illustrated during Thursday’s debate, he’s set the party’s priorities to a degree that would have been hard to imagine a year ago. (The most striking example, perhaps, of the Democratic evolution: Sanders called the Clintons’ ‘90s rhetoric on criminal justice issues “racist”—and Hillary Clinton didn’t even disagree with him.) In other news:
- The New York Post endorsed Donald Trump while urging him to change nearly everything about himself and his candidacy.
- Hillary attacked Sanders’ college-tuition plan with a folksy centrist sound bite that she attributed to her Republican father.
- Sanders seemed to maybe reverse himself on the right to sue gun manufacturers, but maybe not?
- Merrick Garland is meeting lots of nice senators but still not getting a confirmation hearing.
- After Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan complained, Germany may grudgingly prosecute a comedian for violating an obscure law about criticizing foreign heads of state.
- And the Czech Republic might change its name to Czechia. (CHECK-iya.) Czechia!
