Lin Manuel-Miranda Joined Other Broadway Stars for a Special “Carpool Karaoke”

Late Late Show host James Corden will be hosting the Tony Awards this weekend, and what better way to prepare for the ceremony than with a Broadway edition of Carpool Karaoke? Corden was joined by a quartet of major theater stars: Lin-Manuel Miranda rode shotgun, while Audra McDonald (Shuffle Along), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Fully Committed), and Jane Krakowski (She Loves Me) squeezed into the backseat.

The songs were appropriately Broadway-centric, with Corden and Miranda starting off by jamming to a medley from Hamilton and Corden nailing the legendarily fast Lafayette verse from “Guns and Ships” (after a moment’s panicked hesitation). They were then joined by the others for a singalong to Broadway classics, including songs from Les Misérables and Rent.

As he drove, Corden congratulated the stars on their successes at the coming awards ceremony: Miranda’s Hamilton has a staggering 16 Tony nominations, while Krakowski and McDonald are both up for Best Actress in a Musical. Ferguson, however, was snubbed this year for his solo performance in Fully Committed, in which he plays 40 different characters. “I’ve never been nominated, but congratulations,” he deadpans to McDonald. Nominated or otherwise, they’re all just theater geeks at heart—a collective sigh goes around the car as soon as Corden starts playing “Seasons of Love.”
