Over the weekend, Donnie Trumpet and the Social Experiment shared a previously unheard mix of material cut from their celebrated 2015 mixtape with Chance the Rapper, Surf. “The First Time” marks the one-year anniversary of Surf with what Donnie Trumpet calls “an ode to the era” in the new track’s description.

Much like Surf itself, the mix is led by Donnie Trumpet and features a variety of collaborators, including Ady Suleiman, J.P. Floyd, Dustin Green, and Cam Obi. But as with Surf, Chance’s contributions dominate—in fact, the first few minutes of the track, with their “go up, come down” lyrics, even seem to anticipate “Blessings,” the second single from Chance’s newest release, Coloring Book.
