The Broadway Casts of Hamilton and The Color Purple Paid Tribute to the Purple One Last Night

Prince fans everywhere came together last night to honor the Purple One’s life and legacy. And while many people were drawn to the massive Spike Lee–hosted celebration going down in Brooklyn, there were also some beautiful celebrations happening on Broadway.

The cast of Hamilton paid tribute by letting loose, staging a dance party to Prince and the Revolution’s 1984 Purple Rain hit “Let’s Go Crazy.”

And even better—The Color Purple star Jennifer Hudson shared her own fond memories of the icon, and led the cast in a stirring rendition of Purple Rains iconic titular anthem.

In both theaters, the fans in the stands and on the stage gathered together to get through this thing called “life,” sharing an ache and an ecstasy few artists could inspire.
