Prince’s death on Thursday came as a painful shock to fans across the world. Indeed, it was only in February that he opened the North American leg of his “Piano & a Microphone” tour, which included two shows at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on April 14, just a week ago. Those shows, sadly, would go down as his last.
As many have noted, Prince concert footage is remarkably hard to come by, but the Atlanta shows have now left us with one especially poignant clip: the final performance of what may well be the quintessential Prince anthem, “Purple Rain.” As the closing memory of an unforgettable career, it’s hard do better than that.
