The First Teaser for Harry Potter Spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Is Magical

When Warner Bros. first announced another string of Harry Potter films, diehard Potter fans were beside themselves with anticipation. And now we finally have the first teaser for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on the 2001 Harry Potter spinoff book of the same name. The new almost-two-minute clip recalls the wizarding world Rowling first created, but is also different enough to keep even longtime fans guessing.

For one, it’s American. Katherine Waterston (who plays Porpentina Goldstein) does a voiceover that is distinctly non-British. For another, plot details are still fuzzy; here we see “magizoologist” Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), fictional author of the textbook Fantastic Beasts, hunting down magical creatures that appear to have escaped from a suitcase, but that’s about all we know so far. Nevertheless, the teaser is a hopeful mix of mystery and familiarity—enough to satisfy old Potter fans while also creating new ones.  The movie will be released in November 2016.
