As multiple attacks unfolded across Paris on Friday night, leaving at least 150 dead, Parisians banded together to show solidarity and help get each other to safety. Residents of the 10th and 11th arrondissements, where multiple shootings had taken place, tweeted the hashtag #PorteOuverte (French for #OpenDoor) with their addresses to offer their homes to those seeking shelter. Meanwhile, France 24 reported that taxi drivers were giving free rides home to those still seeking safety.
But one of the most inspiring shows of solidarity happened at France’s national stadium, the Stade de France, which had been shaken by nearby blasts during a soccer game earlier in the evening. As fans filed calmly and safely out of the stadium, they raised their voices to sing France’s national anthem.
