Pollster That’s Always Wrong Has Cuccinelli Surging in Virginia

Ken Cuccinelli has something to smile about. Or does he?

Dear reader, I owe you an apology. Two days ago, after drinking in some more bad news for Virginia’s GOP gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli:

That did not happen. Instead, Wenzel Strategies has leaked a poll conducted for the Ending Spending Action Fund, unofficially on behalf of Cuccinelli.

new poll, provided exclusively to Breitbart News, finds the Virginia Governor’s race a virtual dead-heat, with Democrat Terry McAuliffe leading Republican Ken Cuccinelli 41%-40%. Libertarian Robert Sarvis garners 10% and 9% of likely voters remain undecided. … Cuccinelli’s support seems be building … as public attention moves away from the recent government shutdown to the failing implementation of ObamaCare. Cuccinelli was a leading national figure suing to overturn the health care law.

Reporting on the poll, Mike Flynn notes that Wenzel Strategies “predicted closing momentum” for three Republican insurgents who won Senate primaries.

Left unsaid: Wenzel blew it on 2012 general election Senate race polling, across the board. “They also nailed Sen. Akin and President Romney,” joked a McAuliffe spokesman when I shared this poll. True: Anyone reading Wenzel at the close of the last election would have also expected GOP Senate wins in Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin, and a nail-biter in Pennsylvania. Democrats won every race and cruised in Pennsylvania.

But I guess it’s possible that the poll average is 10 points off, and this thing is tied up heading into tonight’s debate.
