David Byrne Does Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend” as Only He Can

Last night, at a concert to support the Content Creators Coalition, David Byrne sang “Just a Friend.” Like Tom Breihan at Stereogum, I’m not sure what the connection might be between Biz Markie’s classic and the insufficient royalties offered by streaming services. Maybe it has something to do with the famous sampling lawsuit the Biz had to fight?

Whatever the case, I’m pretty sure David Byrne doesn’t need a reason to sing this wonderful song—even if he does need to read the lyrics off a sheet. Enjoy.

Update, 6:20 p.m.: The Future of Music Coalition points out to me that the concert was actually about getting performers (and not just songwriters) royalties for radio play, not from streaming services.
