Typically, an obese child is defined as one who at or above the 95^th percentile of body mass index, as compared to benchmark height and weight data collected in the 1960s and 1970s. Using the numbers from 40 years ago as a baseline, the National Survey of Children's Health collected data on the rate of obese children in each state for the year 2007.
