Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., has been named Al Gore's running mate. Lieberman is a "Shomer Shabbas" Jew—one who doesn't drive, talk on the telephone, or use electric-powered machines on Saturday. Earlier this year, Judith Shulevitz explained whether a Shomer Shabbas Jew could serve as vice president.
