Blood Libels

On Tuesday the Israeli government made Adolf Eichmann's memoirs public. Israel decided to forgo annotating the manuscript—which could have taken years—so that historian Deborah Lipstadt could use the text as evidence in her defense against a libel suit by Holocaust revisionist David Irving. Last year, Slate's "Explainer" asked, "Where Were Eichman's Memoirs for 37 Years?" For more on the Irving-Lipstadt trial, see Slate's recent "Dialogue" "How To Deal With Fringe Academics." And in 1998, Adam Shatz chronicled the attempts to censor and denounce a Holocaust revisionist of a different stripe, Daniel Jonah Goldhagen.
