"Generation Y," though inelegant, has become the default nickname of this cohort. Gen Y was initially chosen out of laziness: It naturally followed the more evocative "Generation X." It has no meaning of its own, but it survives because the alternatives are cumbersome or silly. "Millennialists" has a small following, but sounds too culty. "Echo Boomers" is too long. "Oh-Ohs" is nonsensical.
