The Devil of Daytime Television

There is a serious movement in Ohio to draft Jerry Springer as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate. Springer--best known for his vulgar, no-holds-barred daytime talk show--is a former mayor and city council member of Cincinnati. In 1998, David Plotz described Springer's regression from idealistic public servant to nihilistic freak circus master.
