Sullum notes the paradox that the less secondhand smoke there is, the more vehement the opposition to secondhand smoke. "The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that living with a smoker increases your risk of lung cancer by 19 percent," writes Sullum. Smoking increases your risk by 1,000-plus percent.
