It takes money to make money. Peter Pringle reports that 60 of the most experienced and daring trial attorneys ponied up $100,000 each for the privilege of joining a class action suit against Big Tobacco. Some of the lawyers sank $3 million of their own money into suits. But they were routinely outspent: Big Tobacco spends $600 million a year employing half of the biggest law firms in the nation.
