Cohen writes that hit man "Harry Strauss killed a mark in a movie theater in Jacksonville, Fla., as the picture played. ... Before the cops even found the body, the killer was on a train heading east, the country turning red out the window." According to Turkus--who prosecuted Strauss and other Murder Inc. hit men--Strauss had planned to kill the man but failed to carry out the hit after fearing the setting was jinxed. "Thoroughly fed up with the hoodoo contract, he headed for the airport and took the first plane back to Brooklyn," Turkus and Feder wrote. Maybe Cohen knows something Turkus doesn't--he doesn't provide footnotes, so there's no way to know the source of his information--but Strauss surely didn't train very far east from Jacksonville because that would send him into the Atlantic.
