Rose, a longtime Wilson-basher, believes that 20^th century biology is too "deterministic" and "reductionist" and that it conflicts with his credo that "[s]o far as humans are concerned, ... we have the ability to construct our own futures, though in circumstances not of our own choosing. ... Our biology sets us free."
