[F]or seven months after the tragic incidents on Woodrow Wilson Drive, it was assumed that the deaths of Fidel and Peggy Martinez were gangland killings, or, as was sometimes reported, gangland-style killings, since Fidel Martinez, a video distribution company executive, was reputed to have had so-called gangland connections or gangland associates, though it was often noted that a double murder involving fifteen shotgun blasts could not be accurately described as gangland-style killings, even if they had in fact been gangland killings, since the established style of gangland killings is a single bullet fired from a pistol or revolver into the base of the skull, rather than five to ten rounds of birdshot and buckshot fired wildly from a shotgun.
