The Vuelta editors publish, for instance, essays by Cornelius Castoriadis, the French post-Trotskyist, who has always been, for radicals in the know, the avant-garde's avant-garde. This sort of thing comes naturally to Vuelta, given that, like the editors of Partisan Review, Paz, who is now 83, went through a Trotskyist phase of his own, many years ago. And Krauze, too, has a radical background. He is 50 and, as a young man, participated in the Mexican student uprising of 1968, which he describes with a few pages of moving personal recollection in Mexico: Biography of Power.
