The Paper Peril
Posted Friday, April 30, 1999, at 3:30 AM ETIs the Internet to blame for the massacre in Littleton? Some people seem to think so. What's more, this is hardly the first time the Internet has reportedly been complicit in a media-suffused national tragedy. Remember Heaven's Gate, just two years ago? Back then, Michael Kinsley defended the Internet by pointing to a far greater threat to our nation's youth. The threat is paper--the favorite medium of kidnappers, political extremists, and even Hitler himself. Alarmingly, nothing has been done, and the danger remains as real today as it was two years ago.
