The Results of Slate's Twitter Wine TastingFind out which wine was our tweeters' favorite. Plus, a special offer for Slate readers.
Posted Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at 3:54 PM ETThanks to everyone who came out to the Slate Twitter wine tasting with Aulden Cellars at Sotheby's this week, and to those who tweeted their tasting notes from home. The tasting inspired many colorful opinions (you can still check them out on Twitter by searching #SlateWine), but the Hermanos Peciña Rioja Crianza 2003 came out ahead as the crowd-pleaser.
Our wine critic, Mike Steinberger, described it as elegant and earthy, with notes of raspberry, leather, tobacco, and dill, and called it a great example of traditional rioja. Some of our participants called the wine "smoky and woody," "light yet rich," and one whimsical tweeter said it "tastes like a dream."
We're happy to announce that Aulden Cellars is offering a Slate reader discount on the rioja: Get a case of 12 bottles for the price of 10 ($19.95 per bottle). And for readers in Manhattan, delivery is free. Place your order by calling (212) 894-1990 or go to www.aulden.com for more contact information. The offer expires on Sept. 2.
And be sure to start following @SlateWine on Twitter for news of more Slate tastings in the near future.
