 | At G.I. Joe boot camp, all recruits learn the first rule of the G.I. Joe escape: Avoid danger in the most needlessly dangerous way possible. In the first season of the animated series alone, Joes find their way to safety by pole-vaulting over a huge crevasse, hurtling down an abandoned mine shaft in a handcart, and straddling an ICBM, Dr. Strangelove-style The escape isn't really from danger but toward a different, cooler danger. In this scene, Duke escapes certain death at the hands of the dastardly Destro by hang gliding away from Cobra headquarters. But he also sets up the new, exciting possibility of death by crashing into a tree, which he narrowly avoids by landing in a conveniently positioned enemy tank and driving away. |  |
