
Outside that spring's Oscars, demonstrators carried placards reading "Dirty Harry Is a Rotten Pig." It's not clear why they were protesting, since Dirty Harry received zero nominations, but it's worth noting that the evening's big winner, The French Connection, offered a similar, though more skillful and sane, positioning of a so-bad-he's-good cop against the so-fair-it's-useless legal system.
