What is "enterprise journalism"? My colleague James Ledbetter says that an enterprise story is one that a publication essentially wills into being. It's not generated by news or a press release and is either reported or presented in such a manner that it is unlikely to be "scooped" by another organization. A reporter who develops deep sources inside an institution is in a good position to generate enterprise stories. Many of the best newspaper series are enterprise journalism; even a "conceptual scoop" can qualify.
