Manager, Social Media

Description
The Slate Group is looking for a manager of social media to join our creative, fast-paced team. As one of the most influential and widely read news and culture magazines, Slate combines the innovation of a Web-only property with the quality and authority you'd expect from an organization owned by The Washington Post Co. Slate is the centerpiece of an expanding family of sites including The Root, Slate V, The Big Money, and Foreign Policy.
The social media manager will coordinate social media projects across the Slate Group. This will include motivating everyone on the Slate team to contribute to social media efforts and making sure everyone in the Slate Group feels ownership and accountability for social media goals. This will include having an excellent sense of any and all data on social media referrals and other metrics and reporting this data out to the Slate Group.
The social media manager will also participate in and propose projects that would deeply leverage the social networks and increase user's engagement with the Slate Group sites. Lastly, but very importantly, the person in this position would have a heavy presence in a wide variety of social networks. This will be a person who is addicted to the social conversation and has an insatiable knowledge for understanding how these networks work, learning which members are influential and educating the whole Slate team on what the greater industry trends are.
Building engagement and finding new ways to leverage social media is essential core mission of the Slate Group. The manager of social media position is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial person to organize the way the Slate Group interacts with our users in social mediums.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and listen to the conversations on Facebook, Twitter, Digg, YouTube, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Reddit, etc.
- Be the eyes and ears of our brands in these networks
- Help us think of new, creative ways to interact with our users in social ways that would add value for dedicated Slate readers
- Help organize all the members of the Slate Group to feel ownership, responsibility, and accountability for their participation in social networks
- Develop best practices for every employee to integrate into their daily routine
- Lead the execution of multiteam projects which leverage the unique capabilities of certain networks
- Create and maintain regular reports which track the level of engagement that the Slate Group is developing and meaningful metrics of other measures of success
- Attend conferences/network to learn about networks, meet heavy users, and represent the Slate Group brands
Requirements & Qualifications
- Credible self-starter who champions social media through enthusiasm and expertise
- Heavy experience with multiple social networks and a deep understanding the power of marketing in these mediums
- Exceptional customer service skills and attitude
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- BA required

Project Manager, The Slate Group

Job Description
The Slate Group is looking for an experienced project manager to join its team. As one of the most influential and widely read news and culture magazines, Slate combines the innovation of a Web-only property with the quality and authority you'd expect from an organization owned by the Washington Post Co. Slate is the centerpiece of an expanding family of sites, including Double X, The Root, Slate V, The Big Money, and Foreign Policy.
The project manager will facilitate projects across The Slate Group. This will include running sprint meetings and coordinating across teams to make sure projects flow smoothly. The project manager will also ensure that projects are delivered efficiently, on time, and according to specification. A successful candidate will have an assertive personality, be able to track projects across groups, and be able to assess potential roadblocks accurately. The project manager will furthermore need to report on projects' statuses in a way that is visible to all project stakeholders. He or she will be responsible not just for reporting on projects but also for keeping things moving to meet The Slate Group's project-delivery schedule.
This role will serve mainly as project manager for larger projects across The Slate Group, but experience writing requirements, and the ability to jump in and help spec a new functionality, is important.
The project manager role at Slate will be a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial project manager to shape the way The Slate Group develops and tracks new projects.
Responsibilities
- Full-cycle agile project management to get The Slate Group projects deployed on time and to specification.
- Coordinating with cross-functional teams, including development, design, editorial, business, and marketing to ensure they have visibility into the project pipeline.
- Defining project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
- Planning and scheduling project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
- Constantly monitoring and reporting on the progress of the project to all stakeholders
Requirements and Qualifications
- Five or more years' business experience as a project manager at a fast-paced Internet business.
- Experience working in an agile environment, running sprints and coordinating teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at any given time.
- Proven ability to work across functional teams to deliver projects to a schedule and specifications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- B.A. required.
