Jurisprudence: Bush Taps Ex-Judge To Head Justice Department
President Bush nominated former federal judge Michael Mukasey to replace Alberto Gonzales as U.S. attorney general. Mukasey may be best known for presiding over terrorism cases involving Jose Padilla and Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman. Jurisprudence: Restoring Detainees' Habeas Corpus Rights
Congress revoked the right to habeas corpus for noncitizen enemy combatants last year. If reinstated, it would affect the detainees at Guantanamo Bay, some of whom have been held without charge for up to five years.
